Curator's Statement
“I discovered the Idaho Falls Trail Runners (IFTR) a few months after beginning to run in 2019. I quickly realized that I had found my people. This community of almost 3,000 local runners is an incredible resource for anyone looking to hit the trails in and around Idaho Falls. Through their Facebook page I found new trails, group runs, race resources, nutrition and gear recommendations and, most of all, lifelong friends.
“Members of IFTR take running pretty seriously, but they are also incredibly creative and wonderfully silly. At any moment you might find a trail runner bushwhacking up a steep hill, running in costume, plogging (picking up trash while running), running absurd loops for hours and hours, slogging through deep snow, hunting for hidden items, spending 24 hours on a treadmill, eating pie, getting lost, creating Strava art, carrying pumpkins up sand dunes, running with tacos, or competing to be the Grand Poobah of the Empire of the Lost Souls. Whatever it is, the focus is always on fun, community, wellness, and exploration.
“Trail runners also love to take photos. From documenting unique views and wildlife sightings to capturing group memories and silly poses, photography allows us to record and share our experiences. It tells the world that we were there; we climbed that mountain, saw that sunset, crossed that creek, glimpsed that bear cub. This exhibition attempts to bring some of the wonders of trail running to the gallery walls, and hopefully will inspire you to get out and explore the landscape yourself.”
- Georgina Goodlander, Visual Arts Director, Idaho Falls Arts Council.
The Idaho Falls Trails Runners (IFTR) is a nonprofit organization for those who like to trail run in the greater Idaho Falls area and want to connect with others. IFTR’s goal is to build a community that enhances the environment, communities, and individual well-being.
